Enduring Commitment to Countless Young Athletes and Coaches
Effective Public Administrator at Removing Barriers for Families
Shawn Hartline dedicated his life to bettering the lives of many communities. Working as the Community Service Division deputy director of the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services he impacted families by removing barriers to basic human needs. For more than 30 years, Hartline volunteered, coached, mentored and served young athletes through youth football. In 1989, he began coaching Bothell junior football for four years. Returning from coaching in Idaho, Hartline took a break from football and volunteered across multiple sports, including soccer, softball and baseball. In 2003, he coached Inglemoor junior football for two seasons and returned to Bothell to coach until 2011. Hartline served as the Bothell junior football president for five years. In 2011, he was elected president of the Greater Eastside Junior Football Association where he worked for 15 years supporting youth football programs throughout the region. Hartline coached at Edmonds-Woodway High School for four years and volunteered in its youth program. He coached junior football in Bellevue before transitioning to Interlake High School as assistant coach and later head coach for two years. Hartline used football as a platform to build character, confidence and community. He represented what youth sports should be — teaching accountability, teamwork, humility and respect. His influence can be seen in the players he coached, the coaches he supported, the programs he helped strengthen, and the community relationships he helped build. Hartline passed away suddenly in July 2026. His dedication, integrity and passion for helping others both on and off the football field have left an impact on countless families and athletes
